Thank you for writing this. As a canine behavioral counselor what I’ll say is that many behaviors can be addressed, but some cannot. Some “problems” can’t be “fixed”. In more than a few cases, in my own experience, sometimes the issues can’t be resolved because of the bi-ped on the other end of the leash. People who are either unable (rare) or unwilling (often) to do what needs to be done to get the dog to life a safe life. Sometimes the best thing is to rehome the dog to a situation where it can be safe. Sometimes the answer is intense, consistent and thorough behavioral stabilization and training. Sometimes the answer, as you noted, is to allow the animal to go to the only peaceful place that exists for it. I appreciate your courage in sharing this perspective.
